Introduction
The family is the basic unit of society and is important to both individuals and communities. The world we live in is rapidly changing, making today's society much more complex than ever before. As you earn this merit badge, you will realize why it is important to know more about family life and how to strengthen our families.

Please read the latest version of the Family Life merit badge book prior to the class. Please print out a copy of the Family Life Workbook and bring a copy with you to the class. By using this Requirements Resources link (use only with your parent's permission) you will find additional information that will help you with your prerequisite tasks.
For this Merit Badge Class you will be required to work on several of the requirements before coming to the class.
Requirement # 1 … Using the Family Life workbook you downloaded - (i) Prepare an outline on what a family is and discuss this with your merit badge counselor. WRITE YOUR OPINION AND BRING TO CLASS. (ii) Tell why families are important to individuals. WRITE YOUR OPINION AND BRING TO CLASS. (iii) and to society. WRITE YOUR OPINION AND BRING TO CLASS.
Requirement # 2... Using the Family Life workbook you downloaded - List several reasons why you are important to your family and discuss this with your parents or guardians and with your merit badge counselor. WRITE AND BRING TO CLASS.
Requirement # 4 … Using the Family Life workbook you downloaded - With the approval of your parents or guardians DECIDE ON YOUR PROJECT AND BRING THE PROJECT OUTLINE TO CLASS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR.
